The Garden in The Stars: A Visit to Paradise | Authspot

For months, two-and-half-year-old Durdana Khan had been partly paralyzed, intermittently blind, and always in pain. One morning in the autumn of 1968, lying in her cot in the garden of her parents’ home in the Himalayan foothills, she seemed to give up the struggle for life.

Her mother immediately sent for her husband, a doctor; he found no signs of life. Mrs. Khan carried Durdana into the house and Dr. Khan made a last attempt to revive his daughter, murmuring “Come back, my child, come back.”

As last resort, Mrs. Khan poured a few drops of a respiratory stimulant into Durdana’s mouth, but they trickled uselessly down her cheek.

Suddenly, to the amazement of her parents, Durdana opened her eyes and announced that the medicine was bitter. After 15 minutes of clinical death, Durdana had come back to life.
